Our Co-Founder Lucy is a passionate innovator and disruptor.
She loves small and micro businesses and strives to be ahead of the curve in an industry that has historically been resistant to change.
Lucy’s role in Mazuma is to lead the company forward through innovation, marketing and business development.
Mazuma was created drawing on Lucy’s childhood experiences of seeing the stress and anxiety that tax can cause for people. Growing up in a family of self-employed creatives she noticed that they were fantastic at what they did, but not so great with the tax and accounts side of their businesses. Spotting a gap in the market for low cost, subscription-based accountancy services, Mazuma was born.
With over 13 years at Mazuma, and 17 years in total in the accountancy industry, Lucy is widely recognised as an industry expert and regularly called upon to contribute to trade publications and industry discussions. She is a regular columnist for Accounting Web, the leading online publication for accountants. Her debut book, The Millennial Renaissance was released in 2017 and met with acclaim.
Lucy is proud to have been shortlisted for Director of the year (Innovation) by the Wales Institute of Directors in 2019 and has been shortlisted as one of the top Women in Accountancy and Finance 2020.
In 2020 Lucy was appointed as a Specialist Advisor to the Economic Strategy Board for the Swansea Bay City Deal; a £1.3bn project to invest in the area.
Lucy is on the Advisory Board for AccountingWeb Live 2020.
In her spare time she is involved in the sport of Powerlifting. Lucy has competed in powerlifting internationally for both Wales and Great Britain. In 2015 she was a silver medalist at the Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships and in 2016 was British Champion. Nowadays she sits on the board of the Welsh Powerlifting Association along with coaching the Welsh Powerlifting team.
Lucy has been a volunteer for the Princes Trust since 2011 where she mentors and coaches start-up businesses.
With over 10 years of experience in the industry working for Mazuma, Chartered Accountant Stephanie has amassed a wealth of knowledge and expertise across various aspects of tax during her time with the company.
This is alongside her qualifications with industry recognised bodies AAT and ACCA.
Starting as a trainee 9 years ago and now working as a Chartered Accountant, she is truly invested in Mazuma and the financial welfare of all clients. Her role at Mazuma it to ensure that staff are trained to the highest standards and that all our work meets our rigorous quality checks and high standards.
With a friendly and human approach to the daunting prospect of dealing with HMRC and all things tax related, Stephanie will go above and beyond to ensure your mind is put at ease!
With a passion for developing those around her to the highest level to see them achieve their goals, it really ties in with some of the core principles of teamwork within Mazuma. This helps to ensure that the team is in a position to give the best service to our clients.
In her spare time, Stephanie loves long walks on the beach, candlelit dinners and being serenaded by a tall handsome stranger. Well she would if this was her Bio for Blind Date or the plotline of some romantic novel! No. Enjoying a glass of prosecco on the weekend or curling up in front of the TV to watch a film is much more her style!
As an Accountant on the team, Cerys provides in depth tax guidance and support to our clients.
Starting as a bookkeeper with Mazuma in 2015 Cerys has shown her eagerness to progress not only within the company but also to gain further industry recognised accountancy qualifications.
VAT is Cerys’ real area of expertise. She’s often regaling the office with the latest ruling in an obscure VAT case!
Cerys takes pride in relieving the stress from clients about their accounts and taxes so that they can focus on their businesses. She enjoys providing this advice and support in a friendly understandable manner to ensure all clients get the best customer service possible.
Outside of Mazuma Cerys is very family orientated and a serial TV show binger!
As Mazuma’s digitisation officer, Rhiannon is responsible for making sure that all of your paperwork is ready for your accountants in a high quality digital form.
If you’re using the app she makes sure that the images you upload can be used.
And if you use the Purple Envelopes to send your documents by post, she makes sure that all of your documents are processed by our high capacity scanning technology.
Rhiannon’s keen eye for detail, highly organisational skills and experience in working in bookkeeping utilises her skills with her role within the team.
She is a member of a book club, enjoys baking and having a cwtch with her two cats Tilly and Smudge.
